Canon is a group of volunteers who like designing LARPs, writing characters, exploring history and crafting. We pick one or several projects and when there is enough enthusiasm and good ideas, a project becomes reality. Below, several ideas for future projects are described.

Family strive sends armies marching through Holland and Brabant. The French and English court try to pull strings, while the count of Brabant, Burgundy and Holland experience grief, and enact grief to each other. The LARP is played in three ‘acts’, where characters age from ‘young’, to ‘adult’ to ‘old’. They try to broker marriage alliances, and end (or start) wars. The LARP explores the personal and impersonal nature of medieval marriage politics.

The Republic has risen; the aristocracy has fallen. But some still cling to powdered wigs and velvet gowns. A ball is organised to reeducate the nobility of the Netherlands. The times are republican now, and the old world is dead. The threat of the French Terror and memories of golden times haunt players in an experience of the oppression of the previous ‘oppressors’. A LARP about performance, memory, and the ghosts of class.

It is the year 1848. The monarchy teeters as King Willem II is threatened with exposure over his bisexual affairs. Liberals and conservatives clash in parliament; socialists gather in the streets. A constitution is born—not from ideals, but from blackmail, shame, and political desperation. The LARP explores a ‘smooth’ revolution, where no blood is spilled. Honor, oaths and loyalty however…

Anarchists and Marxists gather for the First International, but egos clash as much as ideologies. Petty rivalries, utopian visions, and power plays drive the congress toward a dramatic split. The intended tone of the LARP is humoristic. It is about the absurdity of conferences, political fanaticism and ego clashing with idealism.

A meeting of diverse resistance groups in the Netherlands in the polder of Wieringermeer in 1945. The losing Nazis are threatening to break the dikes. How can they bring the hidden jews and resistance fighters to safety? Must they kill the Nazis before they can break the dike, or are the costs of reprisal too high? And with liberation near, who will run the country next?

…
